Yes. Social work is a graduate profession so you can train through a Level 6 or 7 degree apprenticeship. A social work degree apprenticeship is a practice-based course which aims to prepare students to work as fully qualified social workers.

2. If I am working as an Apprentice, when do I study?

The Social Work Degree Apprenticeship is a 3-year practice based course. You will learn using a mixture of academic study and work-based placements.  As an Apprentice you will have the opportunity to attend University for one day as week, have protected study time and support from a practice educator who works in conjunction with the university to facilitate your success.

An Apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills and apply them in a practice environment. What’s more, you will earn as you learn.

3. What are the Entry Requirements?

A Social Work Degree Apprenticeship is suitable for existing and new social care staff, who are responsible for delivering direct services. Candidates have to be employed over 30 hours a week in a relevant job role.

Applicants will also need their employer to agree to fund the course, either through government co-funding or the apprenticeship levy. Applicants also need to demonstrate their ability to study academic subjects at degree level.
