Over recent months as a follow on from the mandatory Dementia Friends sessions, some staff, friends and relatives as well as a couple of social groups have been busy knitting Twiddlemuffs for focus. We have now collected over 50 of the muffs which we will be distributing to the local Enhanced Dementia care units, residential homes and individuals in the coming weeks.
Twiddlemuffs are knitted woollen muffs with items such as ribbons, large buttons and textured fabrics attached that people with dementia can twiddle in their hands to keep them occupied and provide a distraction. The Twiddlemuffs provide a source of visual, tactile and sensory stimulation at the same time as keeping hands warm and snug! One of them has even been individualised in the colours of a persons favourite football team!
